Synopsis
TEXTILE AND CHEMICAL RECYCLING
Textile and chemical recycling represent two fundamental pillars in the transition toward a more sustainable circular economy. Textile recycling allows materials such as polyester (PET) to be recovered from used clothing or industrial waste, transforming them into reusable pellets for the manufacture of new fibres. This process reduces dependence on virgin resources and lessens the environmental impact of the fashion industry, one of the most polluting in the world.
On the other hand, chemical recycling offers a solution for plastic waste that cannot be treated mechanically, such as contaminated blends or multi-layer textiles. Through processes such as pyrolysis or solvolysis, polymers are broken down into their basic components, allowing the creation of new plastics with equivalent quality to the original. This technique complements mechanical recycling and expands the possibilities for recovering complex materials.
Both approaches not only allow products to close their lifecycles but also open up new opportunities for sustainable design, technological innovation, and emissions reduction.
